Shulou(Shulou.com)11/24 Report--

CTOnews.com August 16 news, The Verge, Arstechnica and other foreign science and technology media recently revealed an unspoken rule of the printer industry. Many brands, including Hewlett-Packard and Canon, cannot perform non-ink-related functions such as scanning and faxing if they do not have ink.

The practices of these printer manufacturers have naturally met with strong opposition from users. Although some users protect their rights and interests through class action, manufacturers still use various means to prevent users from using other all-in-one functions without ink.

The report said Hewlett-Packard was subjected to a class action lawsuit in mid-2022, accusing HP of not explicitly informing users in its advertising campaign that it could not scan and fax without ink.

However, the court rejected the class action on January 13 this year, but allowed the plaintiff to amend it. HP subsequently filed a motion to block the plaintiffs' changes, but a judge in northern California rejected HP's motion on Aug. 10.

The Hewlett-Packard all-in-one models involved in this class action include:

HP Deskjet 2755e

HP DeskJet 3755

HP DeskJet 4155e

HP ENVY 6055e

HP ENVY 6075

HP ENVY 6455

HP ENVY Pro 6475

HP OfficeJet 250 Mobile

HP OfficeJet Pro 7740 Wide Format

HP OfficeJet Pro 8025

HP DeskJet 2622

HP DeskJet 2655

The situation is not unique to Hewlett-Packard. Canon has the same problem and was sued by a class action in March this year, in which the plaintiff claimed that "the advertisement is false, misleading and exists to deceive the public reasonably".

Canon has so far reached a settlement with the plaintiff, but did not disclose the terms of the settlement. CTOnews.com hereby encloses the affected print all-in-one models as follows:
