­following the release of the official version of Android 9.0 Pie, Google today also released Android Security Patch for August 2018 for all supported devices, fixing a number of security vulnerabilities and other issues reported by users. It includes two security patch levels, 2018-08-01 and 2018-08-05, and fixes a total of 43 security vulnerabilities, including framework, multimedia framework, system, kernel, Qualcomm components, Qualcomm closed source components and so on.

­according to Google's latest Android security bulletin, the August 2018 Android security patch will address some of the most serious security vulnerabilities, allowing local malicious programs to bypass user interaction requests to gain additional access. In addition, the update fixes a serious vulnerability that allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary code.

­Google wrote in the security update: "the most dangerous of these high-risk vulnerabilities is to allow remote attackers to execute arbitrary code with specially crafted file extraction privileges. The severity assessment is based on the threat that the vulnerability can pose to the compromised device."

In addition, Google also released Pixel / Nexus Security Bulletin for August 2018 today to remind Google Pixel and Nexus devices that are still supported to upgrade, resulting in a total of 28 security vulnerabilities fixed. This update also improves touch screen problems, network stack problems, and Taimen bootstrap, Netfilter and several Qualcomm components.

­The Android Security Patch for August 2018 is currently shipped to all supported Google devices, including Google Pixel, Google Pixel XL, Google Pixel 2, Google Pixel XL 2, Google Nexus 6P and Google Nexus 5X, as well as support devices similar to Essential Phone.
