CTOnews.com, Aug. 15 (Xinhua) Italian luxury sports car brand Lamborghini, known for its high performance, high price and uniquely designed supercar, has been cautious about producing pure electric cars, believing that electric cars cannot reach the performance level of its diesel locomotives. However, with the continuous progress in electric car technology and the continuous expansion of the market, Lamborghini finally decided to launch its first all-electric car, which will be displayed at Monterrey Automobile week on August 18.

Lamborghini posted a blurry picture on its social media showing the outline of a low sports car with the words: "We will unravel the mysteries of the future at the Monterey Motor Show." Although Lamborghini did not disclose the specific model and details of the car, it is reported that this will be the brand's first 100% pure electric car. The car will use the new platform SSP Sport, led by Porsche, and is scheduled to go on sale in 2028.

CTOnews.com noted that Stephen Winkelmann, Lamborghini's chief executive, told Auto Express last year that its first all-electric car would be more suitable for "everyday use" and would have 2-to-2 seats, two doors and higher ground clearance. "Pure electric cars can be even more emotional than diesel locomotives," he said. " Mitja Borkert, Lamborghini design director, said the new car "will retain 1000 per cent of the Lamborghini design genes" and is different from the brand's three other models-Aventador, Huracan and Urus-all of which will be electrified in the future.

However, Lamborghini is clearly a step behind other competitors that have launched or are about to launch an all-electric supercar. Moreover, the electric vehicle market is likely to undergo great changes and development before 2028, when it remains to be seen whether Lamborghini can maintain its brand value and position.
