CTOnews.com, August 15, according to the latest report released by market research firm Counterpoint Research, India has sold more than 2 billion mobile phones between 2014 and 2022, driven by the "Make in India" development plan, with a compound annual growth rate of 23%.

The report believes that the main reasons for this growth are the huge demand within the Indian market, the improvement of the digital literacy of Indian consumers and the promotion of the Indian government, so India has become the world's second largest mobile phone producer.

India has launched a number of plans and measures, such as phased Manufacturing Program (PMP), Indian Manufacturing, production-linked incentives (PLI) and Atma-Nirbhar Bharat (self-reliance India), which continue to increase local manufacturing and added value.

Research director Tarun Pathak says India has made great strides in making mobile devices. When the current government took over in 2014, only 19 per cent of locally made handsets were made in India; in 2022, more than 98 per cent of shipments in the overall Indian market were "made in India".
