CTOnews.com Microsoft is currently testing a new Office default theme that will roll out to all Microsoft 365 users next month (September), according to updates from Microsoft's 365 roadmap. Microsoft says it is refreshing the default Office theme with new Aptos fonts, new palettes, styles and updated default line weights.

As CTOnews.com previously reported, the Microsoft Design team revealed last month that Aptos is the new default font for applications such as Word, Outlook, PowerPoint and Excel, replacing Calibri, which has been in use for 15 years.

This font change will also be combined with changes to the default styles and palettes used in the document.

The biggest change to the palette is that yellow has been removed and replaced by dark green, with a lighter blue being replaced by dark cyan. Microsoft says this will allow better contrast between the shapes and lines available in Office documents.

Jess Kwok, product manager for Microsoft 365 apps, said the default styles for Word and Outlook are also being updated to "make it easier to read, look more professional, and navigate."

Microsoft began testing these changes with Microsoft 365 Insiders users in July, and the company now says the changes will roll out to all users sometime in September, something CTOnews.com partners can look forward to.
