Shulou(Shulou.com)11/24 Report--
CTOnews.com, August 14 (Xinhua)-- Intel's open source Linux engineers are working to add this support to the Linux system after the DisplayPort 2.1 specification was released last year.
On Friday, Intel engineers submitted a Linux kernel patch to enable the cable identification process, which is needed to enable DisplayPort Alternate Mode 2.1 support for the USB-C interface. In addition, the Chrome cros_ec_typec driver code has changed, which may indicate that Intel's interest in DP Alt Mode 2.1 support is for Intel-driven Chromebook.
The DisplayPort standby Mode 2.1 specification requires the Type-C driver to configure additional cable details about signaling, UHBR13.5, cable type, and DPAM version reports.
The patch series lists DisplayPort Alt Mode 2.1support for Linux, which is currently under review and has not yet been merged.
The CTOnews.com query learned that DisplayPort 2.1strengthens consistency with the USB Type-C specification and the USB4 PHY specification to promote a common PHY that provides services to DisplayPort and USB4.
In addition, DisplayPort 2.1 adds a new DisplayPort bandwidth management feature that enables DisplayPort tunnels to coexist more effectively with other I / O data traffic over USB4 links.
DisplayPort 2.1also updated the DisplayPort cable specification to provide greater robustness and enhancements for full-size and Mini DisplayPort cable configurations, thereby improving connectivity and cable length (more than 2 meters for DP40 cables and more than 1 meter for DP80 cables) without reducing UHBR performance.
VESA-certified DP40 cables support the highest UHBR10 link rate (10 Gbps) and have four channels, providing up to 40 Gbps of throughput, while VESA-certified DP80 cables support the highest UHBR20 link rate (20 Gbps) with four channels, providing a maximum throughput of 80 Gbps.
