CTOnews.com August 14, Bloomberg reporter and Apple source Mark Gurman shared some information about Apple's M3 chip last night, and mentioned that the new MacBook Pro models currently being tested are equipped with 36GB and 48GB unified memory, "which indicates that there may be some new options."

Later, another Apple source, Vadim Yuryev, retweeted Gurman's tweet as follows: "is there a most important detail that has been ignored? the M3 Max is equipped with 48GB memory, which means that the basic M3 will be equipped with 12GB memory for the first time, and there will be no more 8GB memory! any thoughts?"

CTOnews.com Note: as a reference, the number of GPU cores and supported memory capacity of Apple's M-series Max chips are usually four times that of the basic M chips from M1 Max onwards. For example, the memory of M1 chip is 8/16GB, the memory of M1 Max chip is 32ax 64GB, the memory of M2 chip is 8/16/24GB, and that of M2 Max chip is 32/64/96GB.

According to the calculation that the memory of the M-series Max chip is four times that of the basic M-series chip, this means that Apple's Mac series models with M3 processors are expected to add 12GB memory or directly replace the previous entry-level 8GB memory. At present, among the Mac models with basic M2 chips on sale, the minimum memory capacity is 8GB and cannot be replaced manually.
