How on earth is the typhoon named? "du Suri", how do you still have a name? I'll show you a picture and you'll understand.
In the lower right corner of the picture, I marked the location of du Suri and Kanu. That's right! Typhoon has a place of origin, and its name is related to the place of origin.
The typhoon naming method was standardized at the 30th meeting of the Typhoon Committee of the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) held in Hong Kong, China on November 25, 1997. Tropical cyclones in the northwest Pacific and the South China Sea, for example, use Asian-style names.
There are a total of 140 names in the form, which are recycled according to the origin. Du Suri has been used three times, and in addition to the one that is blowing, Typhoon No. 6 in 2012 and Typhoon No. 19 in 2017 have adopted the name du Suri. What's the difference between Typhoon X and its name? Why do we always hear about Typhoon X (such as the most famous typhoon signal No. 8 in Hong Kong films and television productions) outside of hearing things like "du Suri" and "Kanu"?
This is because the meteorological department usually assigns a number to a typhoon according to the chronological order in which it is generated: typhoon No. 1 represents the first typhoon generated in that year, Typhoon No. 2 represents the second typhoon, and so on.
This numbering method can help people identify and track different typhoons more clearly for early warning and response measures. At the same time, when the energy of the typhoon weakens and the center of the circulation is unclear, the Central Meteorological Station will also stop the numbering of the typhoon.
To put it simply, the difference between a typhoon and a tropical storm lies in its wind force and intensity. Only a typhoon with a wind force higher than level 12 can be called a typhoon and has the numbered "special honor". A tropical storm under level 12 is collectively referred to as a tropical storm without a serial number.
Why is the rainfall in the north so heavy this time? "du Suri" triggered torrential rain in the north. The core reason is that the typhoon moves in different directions, and the surrounding air pressure determines where it will rain. In addition, the speed of movement and dissipation will also determine the time of rain. Of course, Taihang Mountain also plays a decisive role.
Judging from the current situation, "du Suri" has gradually dissipated, but a new typhoon "Kanu" is approaching again. From what we know so far, "Kanu" has been upgraded to two levels. After upgrading from a typhoon to a strong typhoon, it has once again strengthened to a super typhoon, and the maximum wind has reached force 16, which is the same as that of "du Suri".
However, from the latest forecast path of "Kanu", the moving path of "Kanu" after entering the East China Sea is uncertain, and it is possible to land inland along the coast, Japan and South Korea in the future.

This application breaks through the bottleneck of slow improvement of numerical weather forecast accuracy in recent years. And Huawei announced on July 31 that Huawei Yunpan ancient meteorological model was officially launched on the website of the European Center for medium-range Weather Forecast, where global weather forecasters, weather enthusiasts and the general public can check Pangu's global weather forecast for the next 10 days for free.
Due to the limited accuracy of meteorological observation and the complexity of physical processes in the atmospheric system, the traditional numerical methods require a lot of computing resources, and the effectiveness of global medium-range weather forecast can only be improved by one day every 10 years.
However, using large models to predict typhoons is changing this gradual development. Large models can quickly achieve high-precision prediction with lower computing cost, which means that accurate weather forecasts can be obtained in a more timely manner.
In addition, in April this year, the Shanghai artificial Laboratory, in conjunction with the University of Science and Technology of China, Shanghai Jiaotong University, Nanjing University of Information Engineering, the Institute of Atmospheric Physics of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the Shanghai Central Meteorological Observatory, released the global medium-range weather forecast model "Fengwu" and accurately predicted the path of "du Suri".
The China Meteorological Administration has also joined forces with a number of departments to predict the path of Typhoon Terry, the first typhoon to make landfall this year.
The forecast results show that the gap between the path predicted by "Fengwu" 12 hours in advance and the actual path of "Terry" is only 35 kilometers. This cooperation uses artificial intelligence technology and a large number of meteorological data to predict the path of typhoons more accurately through analysis and simulation.
Generally speaking, whether it is Huawei Yunpan paleo-meteorological model or "Fengwu", their appearance will greatly enhance the ability to deal with and prepare for disasters in advance.
