CTOnews.com August 13 news, according to Japan's Kyodo News Agency reported that Japan's Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport recently formulated guidelines for the installation of electric, plug-in hybrid vehicles on public roads.

The guidelines propose the following charging pile construction requirements:

Charging piles can be set up to make use of the space beside the lane;

To avoid prolonged parking, encourage the use of fast-charging equipment;

The construction of charging piles shall not affect the normal passage of pedestrians and non-motor vehicles.

The move is reportedly aimed at speeding up the adoption of new energy vehicles in the country while preventing accidents.

CTOnews.com previously reported that Japan's Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) has also recently proposed a number of new implementation requirements aimed at strengthening electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure. METI aims to more than double the power output of charging stations in motorway service areas by 2030, from the current average of about 40 kW to 90 kW.

According to the new proposal, METI plans to require charging stations to be installed approximately every 44 miles (CTOnews.com note: approximately 70.81 km) along the highway, aiming to ensure easy access to charging infrastructure, and charging station operators will receive subsidies.
