CTOnews.com, Aug. 13, according to Chromeunboxed, the much-anticipated Chromebook project with Qualcomm Snapdragon 7c + third-generation chip has been cancelled, which means we will not be able to see the performance of this powerful and long-lasting ARM processor on the Chromebook. On the other hand, MediaTek's Chromebook tablet project with MT8188 chips is still in steady progress and is expected to be launched soon.

Qualcomm Snapdragon 7c + third-generation chip was released in December 2021 and was manufactured by 6nm technology. It is the first 6nm PC processor (previous generation 8nm). It claims that the performance of single-core and multi-core GPUs is up to 30% and 60% higher than that of the previous generation, respectively. Several development boards have been exposed during the development process, including "Herobrine", "Evoker", "Zombie", "Senor", "Piglin", "Hoglin" and "Villager" (CTOnews.com Note: all Snapdragon 7c + Gen 3 development boards are named after my world character). Recently, however, there have been some submissions in the Chromium code base, indicating that these development boards have been abandoned without explaining why.

Meanwhile, MediaTek's Chromebook tablet project on MT8188 chips is ongoing. It is known that a major development board called "Geralt" is being tested, and there may be other variants under development.

The cancellation of the Chromebook project for Qualcomm Snapdragon 7c + third-generation chips is regrettable, and ARM processors have not yet shown their full potential on Chromebook, combining excellent performance, battery life and Android application compatibility. The second-generation chip of Qualcomm Snapdragon 7c has shown great progress in devices such as Lenovo Chromebook Duet 3 and Duet 5, so it is unlikely that the next generation of devices will be able to climb to the next floor.
