CTOnews.com August 12 news, according to foreign technology media phoronix reports, in the upcoming Linux 6.6 kernel version, will thoroughly clean up wireless USB and UWB legacy code.

The report says that due to the lack of maintenance personnel and the popularity of Bluetooth and Wi-Fi, the Linux kernel abandoned wireless USB and ultra-wideband (UWB) code as early as 2019, and wireless USB code has not been updated for 10 consecutive years.

In the Linux 5.7 kernel update released in 2020, a lot of WUSB and UWB code has been removed, and the legacy code will be completely cleaned up after a lapse of three years.

CTOnews.com learned from the report that the Linux 6.6 kernel will remove more than 20,000 lines of WUSB / UWB-related code and add another 500 lines of code.

Wireless USB is used for short-range wireless USB technology, which can reach 480 Mbit / s in the range of 3 meters and 110 Mbit / s in the range of 10 meters.

It's just that wireless USB is out of date, and consumers are more willing to use Wi-Fi and Bluetooth.
