In the evening news on August 10, Alibaba Group announced its results for the new quarter. Aliyun's revenue increased by 4% to 25.123 billion yuan, and adjusted EBITA profit increased by 106% to 387 million yuan. The demand for computing power and model services brought about by the AI boom is driving Aliyun back to growth.

The results show that Aliyun's revenue growth in the current quarter is mainly driven by storage, networking and AI computing-related products, partly offset by the normalization of CDN demand. In terms of customer distribution, revenue growth is mainly driven by financial services, education, power and automotive industries, partly offset by proactive reductions in project-based income.

Zhang Yong, Chairman of the Board of Directors and CEO of Alibaba Group and Chairman and CEO of Aliyun Intelligent Group, said that the demand for AI cloud services is very strong due to the model training and reasoning scenarios brought about by the development of the new generation of artificial intelligence, but such demand has only been partially met due to short-term global supply chain challenges, and the incremental opportunities brought by AI-related services are just beginning to be released.

The "wonderful Duck camera", the first C-end product in China's AIGC field, has seen the demand for computing power on Aliyun soar hundreds of times in a month.

In June, the largest cloud research intelligence platform in Chinese universities jointly built by Fudan University and Ali Yun was officially launched, and the public computing platform provides a new research paradigm with low cost and high efficiency for scientific research. At present, the first scientific research achievement of the platform has been born. The Li Hao team of the Institute of artificial Intelligence Innovation and Industry of Fudan University recently released a large model of medium-and short-term weather forecast with 4.5 billion parameters. The prediction speed is reduced from the original hour level to less than 3 seconds.

Zhang Yong said that the change brought about by AI technology is the beginning of a new era. As one of the world's leading cloud computing vendors, Aliyun will persist in long-term investment in IaaS, PaaS and MaaS, form market-leading core technologies and products at all three levels, and continue to expand its comparative advantage. Aliyun is committed to serving the training and reasoning needs of a variety of large model startups, Internet companies, as well as industry-specific large models and vertical industry models. He believes that "the high-performance and low-cost computing power required for model training and reasoning services has opened up a new space for the development of cloud computing services, from which Aliyun will benefit for a long time with the combination of a new generation of artificial intelligence technology and various industries."

At present, Aliyun is taking the promotion of the ecological prosperity of the large model as the primary goal and actively developing the open source community of the large model. By the end of July, Muda Community has gathered more than 2 million AI developers and more than 1000 high-quality AI models, with a total of more than 45 million model downloads. Not long ago, Meta's open source Llama2 model and Aliyun's latest open source language model with general meaning Qianwen 7B parameters have been widely welcomed by developers in the community.

"We believe that the aggregation and activity of model ecology will greatly promote developers to optimize models and provide services on Aliyun." Zhang Yong said.

During the quarter, Aliyun released a series of new features of the generative AI model. In June, Tongyi listening is online, which can rewrite, retrieve, summarize and organize audio and video content, and automatically extract PPT from video. Recently, Tongyi listening has also added support for browser plug-ins and mobile devices. When users have meetings, online classes, watch live broadcasts and watch videos, Chrome and Edge browser plug-ins can record the whole process and generate bilingual subtitles in real time to help users browse video content more easily. Up to now, the cumulative number of users of each platform has exceeded 550000.

In July, after Tongyi Qianqian and Tongyi listening, Ali Yun released the large model "Tongyi Vientiane", which can assist human beings in picture creation and can be used in art design, e-commerce, games and cultural creation in the future.
