Tuyuan: CNNC said that this is the first milestone node on the critical path of Linglong No. 1 nuclear island equipment installation, a "first show" of nuclear reactor modular manufacturing and installation, and represents a historic step forward in global nuclear energy miniaturization. it marks that China is in the forefront of the world in the construction of modular small reactors.

The core module of the Linglong No. 1 reactor, also known as "Linglong's Heart", is the core component of Linglong No. 1, which is independently designed and purchased by the China Nuclear Power Research and Design Institute of the China Nuclear Power Corporation and made by China's first heavy Machinery Co., Ltd. it is 100% "made in China", integrates pressure vessels, evaporators, main pumps and cancels the main pipeline. Among them, the steam generator is built in the reactor pressure vessel, and the steam generator has completed the assembly welding between the factory and the reactor pressure vessel before hoisting. It is the most difficult and representative "factory prefabricated, modular manufacturing" nuclear power main equipment. Its design innovation not only improves the safety and reliability of the nuclear power plant, but also greatly shortens the construction period and improves the economy.

Because of its unique advantages in safety, deployment flexibility and multi-purpose, small reactor plays an increasingly prominent role in the new round of nuclear energy technology change and international industry competition. According to the statistics of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), there are more than 80 kinds of small reactor technologies being developed around the world. Nuclear power powers such as the United States, Russia, Britain, Japan and South Korea have included small reactor technology in their national strategies. Linglong No. 1 is an innovative nuclear reactor with independent intellectual property rights developed by CNNC on the basis of mature pressurized water reactor nuclear power plants and nuclear power technology. it is the first small modular pressurized water reactor in the world that has passed the IAEA general safety review. At the same time, CNNC actively responded to IAEA's small reactor initiative and participated in the preparation of IAEA's first small reactor user demand document, contributing Chinese wisdom to the development of modular small reactor.

The Hainan nuclear power multi-purpose modular small reactor science and technology demonstration project began construction in Hainan on July 13, 2021, which was contracted by the China National Nuclear Engineering Corporation. China Nuclear Power Corporation No. 22 is responsible for civil construction, and China Nuclear No. 5 Corporation is responsible for equipment installation. it is the world's first land-based commercial modular small pressurized water reactor. After it is completed and put into operation, it is estimated that the annual power generation will reach 1 billion kilowatt-hours, which can meet the electricity needs of 526000 households in Hainan. At the same time, it can reduce carbon dioxide emissions by about 880000 tons per year, equivalent to planting 7.5 million trees a year. It will not only use stable and reliable clean energy to help the country achieve the goal of "double carbon" and the construction of Hainan's "clean energy island", but also promote the development of nuclear energy in the world with the demonstration effect of advanced reactor technology.
