CTOnews.com, August 9 / PRNewswire-Asianet /-- BlackBerry recently released a new research report that reveals that 75% of the world's companies are currently banning or considering banning the use of generative artificial intelligence applications such as ChatGPT in the workplace. Sixty-one per cent of companies said the bans were long-term or permanent, mainly because of risks to data security, privacy and corporate reputation. 83% of enterprises also expressed concern that insecure applications would pose a network security threat to their enterprise IT environment.

Although they tend to ban these applications altogether, most companies also recognize that generative AI applications can improve efficiency (55%), innovation (52%), and creativity (51%) in the workplace. CTOnews.com notes that when it comes to using generative artificial intelligence tools for cyber security defense, the majority of respondents (81 per cent) are still in favor, indicating that IT decision makers do not want cybercriminals to gain the upper hand.

Shishir Singh, chief technology officer for cyber security at BlackBerry, called on companies to be cautious and flexible about generative AI applications in the workplace, saying: "banning generative AI applications in the workplace may mean that a large number of potential business benefits are stifled. As the platform matures and regulations are implemented, some flexibility may be introduced into enterprise policies, and the key is to have appropriate tools to monitor and manage applications used in the workplace. "

While data security and privacy issues are driving these decisions, organizations also recognize the potential to use generative artificial intelligence to improve efficiency, innovation, and creativity.
