CTOnews.com, August 9 (Xinhua)-- US telecom giant Verizon has decided to shut down its acquisition of BlueJeans, a video conferencing app that competes with Zoom, 9to5Google reported.

Verizon announced its acquisition of BlueJeans in April 2020, at a time when the COVID-19 epidemic broke out and the use of videoconferencing applications increased dramatically. According to CNBC, Verizon paid about $400 million for the deal (CTOnews.com Note: currently about 2.876 billion yuan).

BlueJeans sent an email to its customers saying, "We have made a difficult decision to end our BlueJeans product line." The email also said that BlueJeans's recently launched free basic package and free trial service will be terminated on August 31. The email did not say how long paying users would be able to use it, and Verizon did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

As many companies implement policies to allow employees to return to the office, virtual collaboration apps are no longer as popular as they used to be, and even Zoom requires some of its employees to return to the office.
