CTOnews.com August 8 news, according to foreign media EnergyPortal reported that Japan's Ministry of economy, Trade and Industry (METI) plans to implement new requirements, aimed at strengthening the electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure. METI aims to more than double the power output of charging piles in highway service areas from an average of about 40 kW to 90 kW by 2030.

Under the new proposal, METI plans to require charging piles to be installed about every 44 miles along highways, designed to ensure easy access to charging infrastructure, and operators will be subsidized.

In addition to increasing power output and installing charging posts, METI will also make changes to billing and payment methods. Charging pricing will shift from timing to metering and will be charged per kilowatt-hour. The plan also includes the implementation of a pay-as-you-go system in the next few years.
