According to data provided by EV-Volumes, 5.8 million electric vehicles were sold in the first half of 2023, accounting for about 15 per cent of global vehicle sales, CTOnews.com reported on August 8.

Although some car companies, including pure electric (BEV) and hybrid (PHEV) electric vehicles, are expanding, the top five list of electric vehicles in the first half of 2023 is the same as in the first quarter, unchanged.

BYD sold 1248168 vehicles in the first half of this year, with a market share of 21.4%, up 6 percentage points from 15.4% in the same period last year.

Tesla sold 888879 vehicles in the first half of this year, with a market share of 15.4 per cent (CTOnews.com note: Tesla sells only pure electric models), an increase of 1.8 percentage points compared with 13.6 per cent in the same period last year.

In third place is Volkswagen Group, which sold 425761 vehicles in the first half, with a share of 7.3 per cent, down from 8.0 per cent a year ago.

In fourth place was Geely-Volvo, with sales of 359543 vehicles and a market share of 6.2 per cent, up from 5.6 per cent in the same period last year.

SAIC ranks fifth, accounting for nearly 56 per cent of all electric vehicles sold worldwide in the first half of 2023.
