CTOnews.com, August 8 (Xinhua)-- Norwegian regulator Datatilsynet announced on July 17 that fines will be imposed if Meta fails to meet its regulatory requirements and properly address privacy breaches.

Datatilsynet revealed on Monday that if Meta fails to take effective measures by Aug. 14, it will impose a fine of 1 million kroner per day (CTOnews.com Note: currently about 707700 yuan).

Datatilsynet said in July that Meta took advantage of user location, preferred content and post content for marketing purposes.

Datatilsynet asked Meta to overhaul and ban targeted ads on Facebook and Instagram.

The fine of $1 million a day will be imposed from next Monday and will last until November 3, said Tobias Judin, head of the regulator.

Datatilsynet said the fine would be handed over to the European data Protection Committee and made it permanent and could be extended to other European countries.
