CTOnews.com, August 8, according to South Korean media The Elec, LG Display recently bought 14 Micro LED patents in preparation for Apple's Apple Watch Ultra and other next-generation screens by transferring technology patents.

CTOnews.com previously reported that market research firm Trend Force said in July that Apple was developing an Apple Watch Ultra smartwatch with the next-generation micro LED display, but the release of the device was delayed again due to manufacturing problems, possibly as early as the first quarter of 2026.

Apple is actively engaged in mass production of the next generation of displays in order to reduce its dependence on rival Samsung and strengthen its control over the supply of key components.

Apple helps push micro LED panels to the ground through its mature supply chain, suppliers such as ams-Osram collaborate to develop micro LED components, LG provides substrates, and TSMC provides wafer chips.

LG Display has acquired 14 micro LED technologies, including through the transfer of key technologies, giving Apple more influence in improving its supply chain.
