CTOnews.com, Aug. 7-Sony's PlayStation Stars program is a free loyalty program that allows players to earn points, buy products and unlock collectibles by buying and playing PlayStation games. These collections are game-themed digital items that show players' preferences and achievements. However, the program is currently accessible only through Sony's PlayStation App, causing inconvenience to players.

But Sony is about to integrate PlayStation Stars directly into the PS5 console in a new PS5 update, according to gaming website TwistedVoxel. This allows players to access and share their PlayStation Stars ratings and collectibles directly on their consoles without having to use mobile apps, which was one of the promises made by Sony last year.

CTOnews.com notes that players can customize the information they want to share with others in PS5's privacy settings menu. For example, they can choose to share their PlayStation Stars rating or show off their collections acquired through participation in different activities. PlayStation Plus members can also earn extra points by buying games through the PlayStation online store.

In order to protect the privacy of underage players, or to prevent young players from seeing collectibles that may not be suitable for them, these options are only available to adult user accounts in the areas where PlayStation Stars is available.

It is a smart move for Sony to integrate PlayStation Stars functionality directly into the PS5 mainframe, which may increase players' interest in this often overlooked loyalty program. However, it remains to be seen whether players can complete some of the more difficult challenges in order to show off their unlocked collections.
