CTOnews.com, August 7 (Xinhua) if you have trouble scanning QR codes on your Android phone, such as the QR code on the wall is too far away to scan successfully, Google is developing a new feature that allows the phone to automatically recognize, zoom in and read the QR code. This feature has not been officially launched yet, but it has been tested in Google's latest application programming interface (API) for developers.

Specifically, Google's QR code scanner API has been updated and can be used in Google's QR Code Scanner (QR Code Scanner) system or integrated into other applications. If developers use this API, users do not need to grant camera permissions, saving developers time to design their own scanning functions.

The API uses Google's local machine learning technology to parse QR codes and outputs only one Barcode object to the application to protect users' privacy. The specific technical principle is unknown, but artificial intelligence amplification technology has been applied in other media fields.

According to Android expert Mishaal Rahman, the new auto-magnification feature is included in the latest version of the ML Kit barcode scanning API library, which can be integrated into applications (or downloaded through Google's Play service) as well as a separate QR code scanner API version 16.1.0. Rahman wrote that this simple QR code scanning feature may appear on devices running Android 13 or later because their QR code scanners use the same ML Kit barcode scanning library. And according to the on-screen video of X (former Twitter) user AssembleDebug, the feature may have been pushed through GMS.

It is unclear how effective the new feature will be for Android phones with low-quality cameras, or whether it will appear on devices other than Google's own Pixel, and CTOnews.com will keep an eye on it.
