Immersed launches Visor VR head display: supports monocular 4K, color perspective, lighter than mobile phone

CTOnews.com August 6 news, a virtual reality headset designed to improve work efficiency is about to be launched, this headset is called Visor, developed by Immersed.

Immersed currently offers a free virtual reality app that lets users use their own computer monitors in virtual reality and create additional virtual monitors to use up to five at once. Immersed says it already has users working 40-50 hours a week on it, claiming it is "the most popular spatial computing software in the world."

However, general-purpose standalone headsets like Meta Quest and Pico are relatively heavy, have much lower resolution than real monitors, and run feature-rich system software that makes it take longer for users to get from wearing the headset to entering the app. So Immersed is now building its own headset specifically for use with its virtual reality office software.

Visor headsets are the result of Immersed's "strategic collaboration" with Qualcomm on the device side, Intel on the PC side and an "undisclosed AR / VR tech giant"(to be announced later this year), supporting Windows, Mac and Linux systems. Immersed claims the headset is designed for "all-day" comfort, small enough to fit in the palm of your hand and lighter than a regular phone. Many people might compare it to Bigscreen Beyond, another ultra-compact headset released by startups that initially made only virtual reality software. As with Beyond, Visor will customize the lens spacing of the headset based on each purchaser's pupil distance.

But Visor is technically more ambitious. Bigscreen Beyond is a wired headset that requires SteamVR Tracking base stations, while Visor has its own chip and battery to support wireless mode and an integrated internal tracking system from Qualcomm. Visor also has a monocular 4K Micro OLED display and supports "HD" color perspective to see the real world.

However, Visor's scope of use is also more limited. Beyond is a universal SteamVR headset, while Visor is specifically designed to use Immersed productivity software. This customized hardware-software approach means your virtual workspace will be ready "within seconds" of your PC booting, Immersed claims, but it also means it's not a product for playing VR games or social platforms.

Visor is expected to ship in 2024. Invitations to book will be sent out later this year and registration is already available. Immersed hasn't announced a price yet, but says it will be less than $3500 (CTOnews.com notes: currently about 25130 yuan) for Apple Vision Pro.
