CTOnews.com, August 5, according to the latest research report released by data security company Incogni, after an in-depth study of 70 popular AI Chrome extensions in seven categories, 69% were found to be at high risk.

Incogni delved into the number of permissions required by these AI-driven Chrome extensions and assumed the impact these extensions might have on users after they were manipulated by hackers.

Even if the extension with low risk impact score is controlled by hackers, it will not have much impact on user data, while the extension with high score can obtain user sensitive data and perform a series of destructive behaviors such as malware.

Darius Belejevas, head of Incogni, said: "there is no denying that Chrome extensions have improved convenience after incorporating AI elements, but only if they can protect your privacy and security."

69% of the surveyed extensions have a high-risk impact: once controlled by hackers, it may cause serious damage to the network security of users.

The 10 writing class extensions tested all have a high-risk impact.

More than 59 per cent of respondents expanded to collect user data, of which 44 per cent collected personally identifiable information (PII).
