CTOnews.com August 5, Apple CEO Tim Cook and Chief Financial Officer Luca Maestri said that despite the decline in the Mac business in the third quarter of fiscal 2023, the Apple Silicon transformation has been a significant success.

Maestri told investors yesterday that "almost half" of the Mac products sold this quarter were new, and CTOnews.com translated some of his interviews as follows:

The Mac business generated $6.8 billion in revenue in the third quarter, down 7 per cent from a year earlier. We continue to invest in our Mac portfolio, and in the past quarter, we are pleased to have completed the transition from the entire product line to Apple chips.

This shift has driven strong upgrade activity and a large number of new customers. In fact, almost half of all Mac buyers this quarter are new products. We have also seen that in the United States, Mac's customer satisfaction reached 96%.

Cook also commented:

We are proud to have completed the transition of the entire Mac product line and have now completely migrated to Apple Silicon.

We are also pleased to launch the new 15-inch MacBook Air this quarter, which is the best 15-inch laptop in the world and one of the best Mac computers we have ever had.

In addition, we have launched two new powerful computing products: Mac Studio with M2 Max and M2 Ultra, and Mac Pro with M2 Ultra, which is the most powerful Mac we have ever had.

While Maestri believes that the Apple Silicon migration has been a great success, Mac and iPad are likely to see double-digit revenue declines in the fourth quarter (the third quarter of this year).

We expect revenue for Mac and iPad to fall by double digits compared with the same period last year. For both products, we experienced supply disruptions caused by factory shutdowns in the second quarter of last year and were able to meet a large number of pent-up demand in the third quarter of last year.
