CTOnews.com, August 3 (Xinhua)-- according to a new study, the cost of recharging many electric vehicles is still higher than the refueling cost of their gasoline-powered counterparts, according to Businessinsider. The study, released by Anderson Economics Group (Anderson Economic Group) on Tuesday, compared the cost of refueling at a gas station with charging at home or in public places.

The study found that different models have different results on the cost of charging and refueling. For trucks, the cost of refueling and recharging is about the same. For entry-level and mid-range cars and SUV, the cost of charging at home or in public is higher than the cost of refueling at a gas station. Luxury models and SUV are somewhere in between. Charging at home may be cheaper than refueling, but if charging in public, it may be more expensive than refueling.

Based on the latest gasoline and residential electricity prices, commercial charging prices, taxes on fuel and electric vehicles, fuel economy and other information in the United States, the study calculated the cost of refueling and charging every 100km (CTOnews.com Note: about 160.93 km).

The following is the cost by different model:

For a truck, the cost of refueling and recharging is about the same. Whether it's the Ford F-Series, the Dodge 1500 (Ram 1500) or the Chevrolet Silverado SUV, it costs about $17.58 per hundred miles. Diesel trucks cost about $17.10 per 100 miles. If you own an electric Rivian R1T or a GMC Hummer, the cost of charging at home is about the same, about $17.70. However, if you charge mainly in public places, the cost will soar 48%, to about $26.38.

An entry-level sedan and SUV with a Nissan Versa, Hyundai Elantra or Kia Forte costs about $9.78 per 100miles. But if you switch to a Nissan Leaf or a Chevrolet Bolt, the cost of charging at home will increase to about $12.55. Recharging in a public place may cost nearly $16, 64% more than the corresponding fuel-fueled model.

It may be cheaper to recharge a luxury car at home than to refuel, whether it's a Lexus ES, a Porsche Macan, a Mercedes-Benz GLE or a similar model, which costs about $17.56 per 100 miles. While Porsche Taycan, Tesla Model X and Model S and Mercedes-Benz EQS charging at home may only cost about $13.50, saving about 23%. But if you drive these electric cars and recharge them mainly in public places, it's about the same as refueling, costing about $17.81 per 100 miles.

Mid-range sedans and SUV currently cost more to recharge the Ford Mustang Mach-E, Kia EV6 or Volkswagen ID.4 than the corresponding internal combustion engine models such as the Chevrolet Equinox, Nissan Altima or Subaru Forest Man. Recharging at home costs about $12.62 per 100 miles, while refueling at a gas station costs about $11.08. When at a public charging station, it costs about $16.10.
