CTOnews.com, August 2 (Xinhua)-- according to Google's support page, YouTube is testing the ability to automatically generate video summaries using artificial intelligence (AI), one of Google's latest attempts to explore generative AI technology.

The support page points out that these video summaries will only appear next to a small number of English videos and can only be seen by a small number of users. They are displayed on YouTube's viewing and search pages to provide users with a short overview of the video content and help them decide whether to watch the video without replacing the original description written by the video author.

Jen Jamie, a Google spokesman, told The Verge, "We are testing a new feature for viewers that uses generated AI to create profiles for YouTube videos. We often test new features before they are officially launched in order to create and improve the best experience for our viewers and creators." According to Jamie, YouTube viewers may see AI-generated summaries on mobile devices while watching English-language blogs, shopping and tutorial videos.

CTOnews.com notes that this is one of many AI projects Google is currently working on. For example, at a developer conference in May, the company announced a new Play Store feature that aims to use the generated AI to summarize user comments on the application.
