Shulou(Shulou.com)11/24 Report--
Thank CTOnews.com netizens Wa for the clue delivery of pure water! CTOnews.com, August 1, Tesla has been under investigation by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), especially about its autopilot function. However, NHTSA suddenly announced an investigation into 280000 2023 Tesla Model 3s and Ys after 12 owners complained of "steering failure".
Yesterday, NHTSA issued a preliminary assessment (PE) notice on the situation, which mentioned that 12 complaints were received about the loss of steering ability and / or power steering of Model 3 and Model Y vehicles:
The Office of defect investigation (ODI) is conducting a preliminary assessment (PE) of the 2023 Tesla Model 3 and Model Y vehicles due to reports of non-steering and power steering failure.
NHTSA did not release many details about the investigation, but they explained:
ODI received 12 allegations of steering control failure and power steering failure in Tesla Model 3 and Model Y vehicles in 2023. Five reports indicate that the vehicle cannot turn. Seven other reports mention that power steering failure makes it difficult to control, and we have assessed the scope, frequency, manufacturing process and severity of the situation.
So far, there have been no casualties in all reports, but NHTSA mentioned that one of them caused a car accident.
"it feels like the steering wheel is stuck, causing the car to skid out of the driveway and hit a tree," a Model 3 owner is said to have said in May. In June, another owner from Georgia said that his Model Y had been driving for just two weeks when the steering wheel suddenly failed, causing the car to crash into the opposite traffic.
The investigation launched by NHTSA today is only a preliminary investigation to determine whether the issue poses an unreasonable security risk. Whether it will be recalled in the future depends on whether NHTSA upgrades the investigation to engineering analysis. CTOnews.com warned that all the models affected this time are made in the United States.
In April, a car owner said he was driving the Model Y, which was less than 30 days old, when the wheel slammed to the right and banged, then the car screen popped up with a warning of "steering assist failure" and an error message.
He also complained to NHTSA: "Tesla also postponed my service date from May 2 to May 25 because of a shortage of parts." The owner also said: "Tesla has confirmed that this is a recent awareness of the problem, may need to completely replace the steering gear."
In addition, a Tesla owner in Honolulu reported that the steering wheel began to lock at random just a week after buying the car. A total of six similar situations occurred before he took the car to the Tesla service station. "at present, the car is still at Tesla service station, waiting for a new steering gear / motor."
