Shulou(Shulou.com)11/24 Report--
CTOnews.com, August 1 (Xinhua)-- Samsung Display plans to use low refractive overlay (CPL) on its smartphone OLED, with commercial applications expected as early as 2025, according to TheElec.
The CPL is formed at the top of the cathode to help direct light from the emitting layer toward the front of the display panel. As far as CTOnews.com knows, high refractive index CPL panels are widely used in OLED screens, which have the advantage of reducing power consumption.
To put it simply, the application of low refractive index CPL in this case can reduce the light loss and further improve the optical efficiency of the display screen. Currently, Samsung shows that it is testing the new technology with Dongjin Semiconductor, Lapto and Hodogaya Chemical.
It is said that the technology may first be used in M15 materials, is expected to be used in 2025 Galaxy S-series phones, and then may be used in iPhone.
In contrast, the adoption of this low refractive index CPL coating will extend the production process and increase costs, so customers (Samsung Electronics and Apple) need to be persuaded to adopt this technology.
Samsung shows that the main OLED panels are made of M12 material and have been used in Galaxy Z Fold 4, Galaxy Z Flip 4, Galaxy S23 series, Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Galaxy Z Flip 5, as well as Apple's iPhone 14 Pro series last year and the iPhone 15 series launched later this year.
For non-Apple customers, Samsung shows that it has developed a series of separate products for them called the M13, but Samsung Electronics did not choose to use it, and the industry believes that Google's folding screen phones will be the first to use this material.
