According to the latest leaked internal emails, Mr Jassi has notified the "S team" of more than two dozen Amazon executives that he has promoted Rohit Rohit Prasad, senior vice president and chief scientist of Amazon Alexa, as his direct subordinate. Internal emails show that Prasad will lead a newly formed team responsible for developing the company's most "ambitious" large language model (LLMs).

Large language model is the core technology of building artificial intelligence tools. This model generates human-like answers by learning from large-scale data sets. Companies such as OpenAI, Google and Meta have built big language models that amaze the tech world. Amazon has many similar products, including Alexa Teacher Model and Titan.

In an email at the end of June, Mr Jassi said Mr Prasad would lead a "core team" to build Amazon's "most expansive" big language model.

"to put it simply, I would like to share the news that Rohit will move to a new position to lead a core team to build our most scalable big language model," Jassi wrote in an email. Although we have built several large language models within the company, and there are several other projects under development, we will focus our resources on building our most ambitious big language models, and Rohit will lead the team. An Amazon spokesman didn't respond to a request for comment.

According to previous reports, Amazon is eager to cope with the rapid rise of generative artificial intelligence. While Amazon has been working on a variety of artificial intelligence technologies over the past few decades, competitors such as Microsoft, OpenAI and Google have taken the lead. Meta's latest Llama 2 model has also caused a sensation in the industry.

It is reported that Amazon recently set up a new team under the cloud computing division AWS to focus on helping customers use generative artificial intelligence. AWS is also reported to have introduced some new artificial intelligence products, such as Bedrock services, which make other basic models easier to use, as well as Code Whisperer, an AI coding tool launched in 2022.

Prasad has been an executive on Amazon's Alexa team for more than a decade, and Amazon recently launched a new project to use ChatGPT-like technology to make Alexa smarter and more personalized.

Prasad is also a member of Amazon's device and services team, and he will continue to be involved in the business. It is understood that the team is led by Dave Limp (Dave Limp).

Shortly after Jassi's June announcement, Mr Limp told the team that Prasad would continue to be "an important partner and supporter of Alexa and play an important role in the future of our business". Daniel Lausch (Daniel Rausch), vice president of the equipment and services team, will be responsible for Alexa's product and business organization, including entertainment, partner engagement and international teams, according to the email.
