CTOnews.com, August 1 (Xinhua)-- Comma.ai is an autopilot startup founded by a well-known American hacker George Hotz in 2016. At the recent technology annual meeting, Comma.ai announced that it will add map navigation-based autopilot to the latest open source autopilot software Openpilot 0.9.4.

Ordinary cars only need to install compatible hardware to cooperate with Openpilot to achieve "autopilot", but the open source project is more for "experimental" purposes and relies entirely on the autopilot software, which is risky.

In the newly released 0.9.4 version of Openpilot autopilot software, users can select points directly on the map to drive the car automatically to its destination, and users can further determine the driving route and change the car's route immediately according to road congestion.

It is reported that the Comma 3 hardware can input the images and navigation maps captured by the two cameras in the front of the car into the AI model to predict the next driving route in real time.

In terms of Openpilot training, the Comma.ai team said they used a large number of 60-second driving records to set up a dedicated database with map data and trained the model to "learn how to drive like humans".
