CTOnews.com August 1, Microsoft announced in June that it would provide official replacement parts for its Surface PC products so that DIY equipment maintenance enthusiasts can buy their own. Today, the company quietly expanded the program, adding replacement parts for the second generation of Xbox wireless handles and Xbox elite handles.

The replacement parts include the top cover and buttons of two handles, according to the page on the Microsoft Store website. In addition, Microsoft also sells components such as input circuit boards and motor components for Xbox handles. These parts have an one-year warranty.

CTOnews.com noted that Microsoft made it clear on a new support page that these parts should only be used for Xbox handles that have expired their normal warranty. On another support page, Microsoft added:

This kind of maintenance requires a certain level of technology and is suitable for enthusiasts, professionals or people with electronic disassembly and assembly experience. If this is your first attempt to repair, please be careful and follow our safety advice and step-by-step instructions.

Microsoft also said that maintenance handles require tools that are not sold directly by Microsoft. They include plastic crowbars, TR8 and T5 Torx screwdriver heads and plastic tweezers. Microsoft provides PDF files and publishes video tutorials on YouTube to guide users on how to repair Xbox wireless handles and Xbox Elite handles II.

However, Microsoft also stated that failure to follow maintenance guidelines, do not use the right tools, or use parts that are not directly sold by Microsoft "may result in serious personal injury, death and / or damage to products or other property."
