CTOnews.com, August 1 (Xinhua) billionaire Elon Musk bought Twitter for $44 billion in October last year and recently renamed it "X". On Friday, the company installed a glowing giant X sign on top of its headquarters on Market Street in downtown San Francisco to indicate that the company will stay in San Francisco and will not leave the city like some other companies. Musk wrote in a post: "Beautiful San Francisco, although others have turned their back on you, we will always be your friends."

However, the sign was not welcomed by the neighbors, who complained that the light of the sign was too harsh and affected their lives. Over the weekend, the San Francisco Construction Department received 24 complaints. Those who complained said that the sign was installed without a permit, was unsafe and a nuisance. Others complain that its flashing lights make it difficult for residents to fall asleep.

CTOnews.com noted that some X users also posted videos on the platform showing the glowing, pulsating and flickering effects of the giant X and expressed their dissatisfaction with it. User @ itsmefrenchy123 said that if the bright sign was across from my bedroom, I would be "furious". User @ DollyMarlowe wrote: "I'm just shocked by this unscrupulous behavior."

But the giant X sign didn't stay long. Workers were seen dismantling the glowing X on Monday. "owners will be charged for installing light-emitting structures without permission," a spokesman for the construction ministry said by email. " Company X said the demolition was voluntary. Over the weekend, an inspector from the construction ministry wrote in a report that representatives of the company twice rejected requests from city officials to check the signs. The inspector pointed out that a representative said the sign was temporary.
