Last Wednesday, Xiaopeng and Volkswagen announced a strategic partnership to jointly develop two B-class pure electric models to be sold in China as a Volkswagen brand, CTOnews.com reported on July 31.

Porsche said on Wednesday that it was considering investing up to $3.3 billion (CTOnews.com Note: currently about 23.595 billion yuan) to build a plant and is in talks with potential financial and strategic partners.

According to intelligence shared by auto analyst @ Jas0nYu, Volkswagen's Porsche has sought platform cooperation from BYD, Dream and Xilai, but was eventually rejected. He believes that Xiaopeng's cooperation with Volkswagen is to get what they need, while Japanese and Korean brands will gradually give up the Chinese market.

Porsche said last week that it was under pressure to accelerate the electrification transition and that the launch of several major electric vehicles, including the pure electric Macan, had to be delayed because of software glitches. At the same time, delivery of Porsche's only all-electric model, the Taycan, fell 5 per cent in the first half of the year due to a shortage of parts.

Porsche CEO Obermu said that since most of the vehicles are made in Germany, it may be reasonable to increase battery capacity near Germany. At the same time, the application process is simple and the provisions of the inflation reduction Act have made the United States increasingly attractive to Porsche.

Porsche currently owns Cellforce, a joint venture that studies high-performance batteries, and has invested in a 1.3GWh plant in southwestern Germany.
