Internet business revenue maintained a small growth. In the first half of the year, China's large-scale Internet and related service enterprises (hereinafter referred to as Internet enterprises) completed Internet business revenue of 643.3 billion yuan, an increase of 2.6% over the same period last year.

The growth rate of total profits remained at a relatively high level. In the first half of the year, the total profits of large-scale Internet enterprises in China totaled 63.96 billion yuan, an increase of 27.6 percent over the same period last year. Operating costs rose 7.4% year-on-year, 2.4 percentage points higher than in the first quarter.

Funding for research and development continues to decline. In the first half of the year, large-scale Internet enterprises in China invested 30.54 billion yuan in R & D, down 6.8% from the same period last year.

II. Operation in different areas

(1) the income of enterprises in the field of information services shrank slightly. In the first half of the year, Internet business revenue from enterprises dominated by information services (including news and information, search, social networking, games, music videos, etc.) fell 2.5% compared with the same period last year.

(2) the income of enterprises in the field of life services has increased slightly. In the first half of the year, Internet business revenue of platform enterprises mainly providing living services (including local life, car rental, travel, financial services, cars, housing, etc.) increased by 9.5% compared with the same period last year.

(3) the income of enterprises in the field of network sales is growing rapidly. In the first half of the year, Internet business revenue of enterprises mainly providing online sales services (including commodities, agricultural and sideline products, integrated e-commerce, medical supplies, express delivery, etc.) increased by 37.4% compared with the same period last year.

III. Operation by region

Internet business revenue in the eastern region maintained a small growth. In the first half of the year, the income from Internet business in the eastern region was 598.6 billion yuan, an increase of 3.8 percent over the same period last year, an increase of 0.9 percentage points over the first quarter, 1.2 percentage points higher than the national growth rate, and accounted for 93.1 percent of the national Internet business revenue. The revenue from Internet business in the central region totaled 21.74 billion yuan, down 7.5% from the same period last year. The revenue from Internet business in the western region totaled 21.22 billion yuan, down 10.7 percent from the same period last year. Revenue from Internet business in Northeast China totaled 1.69 billion yuan, down 39.7% from the same period last year.

The growth rate of Internet business in nearly half of the region is positive. In the first half of the year, Beijing (up 0.8 per cent), Shanghai (up 13.7 per cent), Zhejiang (up 2.4 per cent), Guangdong (down 5.5 per cent) and Tianjin (up 24.7 per cent), which ranked among the top five in cumulative Internet business revenue, totaled 564 billion yuan, up 4.9 per cent year on year and accounting for 87.7 per cent of the country (excluding cross-regional enterprises). There are 14 provinces (autonomous regions and municipalities) with positive growth in Internet business across the country.

IV. The Development of Mobile applications (App) in China

According to the statistics of the national App technology testing platform, by the end of June, the number of active App detected in China's domestic market was 2.6 million (including Android and Apple stores). The number of mobile app developers is 830000, including 250000 Android developers and 580000 Apple developers. In June, Android App Store downloaded a total of 69.6 billion apps.
