Notice that this man is manipulating a robot with his own movements.

At the same time as he punched, the robot perfectly reproduced his movements almost without delay, swinging his fists at the boxer at the other end of the ring, controlled by AI.

This picture is simply a sci-fi movie "Iron Armor Steel fist" shining into the reality, so that netizens call Thai trousers hot!

The video received 25,000 praises and 3k + coins on bilibili, and was followed by IEEE Spectrum and New Scientist.

Some netizens can't help but ask online immediately after watching the video:

So where can I buy it?

Some netizens directly chanted "acceleration" and looked forward to the AI boxing championship battle.

Such a wonderful picture, how can there be no Leeuwenhoek's figure?

The robot is called QIBBOT, named after the developer company Qibo Robot.

The birth of QIBBOT is inspired by the movie Iron Armor and Steel fist.

QIBBOT's R & D team, including consultants, has only three people.

Martial arts in the world, QIBBOT is the fastest remote control robot so far.

At high speed, the minimum delay of the QIBBOT is only 12 milliseconds, which is less than 1 / 15 of the blinking time.

Even if the video of QIBBOT imitating human action is slowed down to 0.1x, the difference is not significant.

If the manipulator is replaced with AI, the punching speed will be even faster.

In addition to boxing matches, QIBBOT can also imitate other movements, such as boxing greetings after the match.

It is also very easy for operators to learn to use QIBBOT.

Just wear a good somatosensory device, then make normal movements, and you can start playing for a minute.

Bilibili netizens agree with the speed of the QIBBOT, and even think that the speed of the operator is the speed limit of the robot:

The delay of previous teleoperation robots is generally on the order of 100 milliseconds.

The QIBBOT team explained how they reduced that number to 12 milliseconds.

It is understood that the error of teleoperation robot mainly comes from three aspects-computing, communication and mechanical system.

The communication delay is so small that it can be ignored.

So the Qibo team first started with the mechanical system and accurately designed the kinematic and dynamic models.

The mechanical structure and weight distribution of QIBBOT have also been specially optimized.

But the QIBBOT is too big-1.9 meters tall and 1.5 meters long, weighing 140kg in the single-arm version alone.

The mechanical structure alone is not enough to reduce the delay to 12 milliseconds.

After repeated research, the team creatively added predictive control to the control algorithm of QIBBOT.

To put it simply, the delay will be offset by the prediction before the operator completes the control action.

In order to improve speed, the team also selectively sacrificed some accuracy and stability, and trembling occurred during the exercise.

However, for the purpose of boxing, the loss of precision is acceptable.

In the new version of QIBBOT launched in the future, the appearance will be improved and the problem of trembling will be solved.

According to the team, the new version of QIBBOT will also make improvements in these areas:

One arm will be changed to two arms, and each arm will have more joints

The torso will be able to rotate and move up and down

The mode of movement is closer to human beings.

Have a better boxing strategy

The movement is smoother.

The team told us that the next generation of QIBBOT will be unveiled at the end of this year or early next year.

Make something cool, we had the privilege of talking to QIBBOT's team about its birth.

The core of the team, also a technical consultant, Geng Tao, has more than 20 years of robot research experience and has taught in many universities at home and abroad.

Geng Tao's son, Geng Yining, works with a part-time member, and Geng Yining also serves as CEO of the company.

With regard to QIBBOT, the team's ideal is to reproduce the battle scenes from the movie Iron Armor and Steel fist.

However, in the process of communication, Geng Tao also admitted that this dream is still a long way off, and only a very small part of the current QIBBOT has been realized.

It is difficult to achieve that, especially since leg movement is a world-class problem in robotics, and even the most advanced teams may not be able to solve it, at least in the foreseeable future.

Of course, if you put aside the problems of the legs and only look at the upper body exercises, such as waist twisting, the team said that they "still have the confidence to do a good job."

As to why he thought of making such a different robot, Geng Tao quipped:

I didn't think so much at first. I just wanted to do something cool and enjoy the feeling of doing things step by step.

Of course, it is also out of love for video games and movies, and no one has done it yet, so we all think it is worth a try.

QIBBOT's research began as early as 2019. In the first three years, the team invested a total of 30 to 400000, but failed.

Despite the product's failure, the team's experience made a difference-just a year later, the QIBBOT prototype finally came out.

After the original prototype was made, the team immediately realized that the path was feasible, and that such a robot weighing nearly 2 meters and 140 kilograms was visually shocking in itself.

According to understanding, the cost of making such a remote robot is at least hundreds of thousands of yuan, plus the cost of previous failures, it is not a small amount.

At present, the cost of the experiment has been borne by the team itself, and the team has also made some efforts to save money, such as buying motors on the second-hand platform.

Of course, love is one thing, and business is another. It is impossible to use love to generate electricity all the time in doing scientific research.

Although the investment is not small, the team does not pay too much attention to the commercialization of the product at present.

We have always adhered to the idea that we do not prejudge whether something that does not exist has value, says Mr Geng.

First take the first step, let the product iteration give more people experience, and then consider commercial realization. From the beginning, the position of the company is a small and professional company, pursuing the extreme of technology and maintaining professionalism.

At the same time, we also noticed that almost every comment made by netizens in bilibili's video got a reply from the team.

For the mass production version that some netizens are looking forward to, Geng Tao told us that after the prototype is perfect and mature, it will be very easy to hire a team specializing in mass production.

In addition, the team would like to take this opportunity to thank bilibili's netizens who care about and support QIBBOT.

Did not expect that QIBBOT will receive so many netizens' attention, netizens put forward the suggestions we have read carefully, thank them very much, and I am glad that so many people like robots.

At the end of the interview, team members called on everyone to participate in doing something cool.

Bilibili's video address has been posted below. If you are interested, you can go and have a look.
