CTOnews.com, July 29 (Xinhua)-- Boeing signed a $4.2 billion agreement with NASA in 2014 to develop the "Starliner" manned spacecraft, and the project has lost a cumulative $1.14 billion (CTOnews.com Note: about 8.162 billion yuan), according to Boeing's second-quarter 2023 results.

According to the second quarter of 2023, the company lost another $527 million, while the Starliner project resulted in $257 million, which, together with the previously announced $883 million, brought the total loss to $1.14 billion.

In 2014, NASA signed $6.8 billion contracts with Boeing and Space Exploration Technologies (SpaceX) to build "interstellar airliners" and "dragon" manned spaceships, respectively, to enhance commercial passenger transport capacity (CCtCap) in the United States.

SpaceX's Crew Dragon capsule has completed six manned flights for NASA since 2020. The seventh mission is scheduled for August this year, and the eighth mission is tentatively scheduled for February 2024.

However, at a time when SpaceX's "Dragon" spacecraft has been put into use, the development of Boeing's "Starliner" spacecraft has repeatedly hit a brick wall, and the launch mission has been repeatedly postponed.
