CTOnews.com, July 28 (Xinhua) Toyota has planned to sell about 1/5 of its stake in Japanese telecom operator KDDI in exchange for nearly 250 billion yen (CTOnews.com Note: currently about 12.8 billion yuan), according to the Nikkei News.

▲ Tuyuan Pixabay reported that Toyota is a major shareholder in KDDI and once invested in Japan Mobile Communications (IDO), one of the predecessors of KDDI. Toyota's decision to sell its stake is to sell its stake in an asset-inefficient policy to fund the electrification of cars such as electric cars, the first time Toyota has sold a stake in KDDI.

CTOnews.com previously reported that Toyota today released a production and sales report for the first half of 2023. Global sales of the group, including Daifa Industries and Hino Motor, were 5419841 vehicles, up 5.5 percent from the same period last year, and global production was 5627437 vehicles, up 10.3 percent from the same period last year, a record high.

However, Toyota's sales in China fell for the first time in three months in June, down 12.8 per cent from a year earlier to 174548 vehicles. Sales in China fell 2.8% from January to June.

In addition, Toyota sold 10191 pure electric vehicles worldwide in June, including the Lexus brand, of which about 5000 were sold in the Chinese market. Toyota's total sales of pure electric vehicles reached 46171 in the first half of 2023.
