Google released a press release today announcing the official launch of the feature. Android phones automatically issue alerts if they detect unknown Bluetooth tracking devices around Android phone users.

Users can click "more info" in the notification to view a map of where the tracker was last seen and use the "play sound" feature to make the tracker sound.

CTOnews.com learned from the report that Google currently only supports detecting Apple's AirTag, but Google officials said they would add support for other trackers such as Tile in the future.

Apple and Google jointly submitted a proposed industry specification in May to help combat the misuse of Bluetooth location-tracking devices for unwanted tracking.

This first-of-its-kind specification will allow Bluetooth location tracking devices to be compatible with tracking detection and alerts across iOS and Android platforms. Major tracker brands such as Samsung, Tile, Chipolo, eufy Security and Pebblebee have expressed support for the draft specification.
