The company's second-quarter revenue rose 17.4 per cent year-on-year to 42.25 trillion won, while operating profit rose 42.2 per cent to an all-time high of 4.24 trillion won, according to the results.

Hyundai's second-quarter operating profit was 4.24 trillion won (CTOnews.com Note: currently about 23.786 billion yuan), an increase of 42% year-on-year and an estimated 3.82 trillion won.

In the quarter, Hyundai's net profit was 3.24 trillion won (currently about 18.176 billion yuan), up 15% from a year earlier and estimated at 3.11 trillion won; sales were 42.25 trillion won (currently about 237.023 billion yuan), up 17% from a year earlier and estimated at 40.11 trillion won.

In terms of car sales, Hyundai sold 1059713 vehicles worldwide in the second quarter, up 8.5 per cent from a year earlier. Sales outside South Korea rose 7.6 per cent to 854210 vehicles, while sales in South Korea rose 12.7 per cent to 205503 vehicles.

Hyundai maintains its annual sales target of 4.32 million vehicles and an investment plan totaling 10.5 trillion won.

The company will continue to strengthen its position in electric vehicles, increase sales of IONIQ 6 and IONIQ 5, and launch more models, including Hyundai Kona EV, Genesis GV60, Electrified G80 and Electrified GV70.

This quarter, the company also launched its first high-performance electric vehicle, the IONIQ 5N, to further consolidate its global leadership position in electric vehicles. In addition, IONIQ 6 will be launched in more markets around the world. Hyundai expects the fifth-generation new SANTA FE medium-sized SUV, which will be launched globally next month, to further boost sales momentum this year.
