Shulou(Shulou.com)11/24 Report--

On July 27, Meta, the parent company of Facebook, reported second-quarter results on Wednesday, saying its Reality Labs division lost $3.7 billion. Reality Labs is committed to developing the virtual reality and augmented reality technologies needed in meta-universe.

Since the beginning of last year, the division's total loss has reached about $21.3 billion.

Reality Labs's second-quarter sales were $276 million, down from $339 million in the first quarter. Market analysts had expected sales of $421 million and an operating loss of $3.5 billion.

Meta's shares rose about 5% after the earnings announcement, as advertising rebounded and the company was optimistic about its sales forecast for the third quarter. However, this once again shows that Meta is still a company with the advertising business as its main source of income, and the loss of the Reality Labs division is quite large.

Last year, Meta's Reality Labs division lost a total of $13.7 billion, but revenue reached $2.16 billion, mainly from virtual reality sales of the Quest brand. In the first quarter of this year, the Reality Labs division lost $3.99 billion.

Meta said in its earnings report that the operating loss of the Reality Labs division is expected to increase significantly due to continued investment in the development of augmented and virtual reality products and the expansion of the ecosystem.

In June, Meta launched a virtual reality subscription service called Meta Quest +, which costs $7.99 a month and is compatible with Quest 2, Quest Pro and the upcoming Quest 3 headset. The subscription service allows users to play two new virtual reality games a month, as long as they keep their subscription status.

In addition, a few days before Apple released the Vision Pro headlines, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg (Mark Zuckerberg) revealed the details of the Quest 3 headers. The Quest 3 starts at $499, 40% lighter than the Quest 2, and comes with the next-generation Qualcomm chipset. Apple Touxian is expected to be released in 2024 and will sell for as much as $3499.
