CTOnews.com, July 27, there have been frequent rumors over the past six months that AMD plans to launch an APU that combines Zen 4 and Zen 4c cores (with the same architecture and lower frequency), just like Intel's P + E hybrid architecture.

AMD officially released the 7040U series of processors in May this year, including four R3 7440U models, ranging from 4-core to 8-core models.

R5 7640U:6C12T 4.9 GHz + 8CU 2.6GHz

R5 7540U:6C12T 4.9 GHz + 4CU 2.5GHz

AMD now confirms to xda-developers that the company does have a six-core APU and will use it for 7440U. Although AMD did not confirm the underlying design, other details were perfectly consistent with the revelations, and unlike the previously announced eight-core R3 7440U, it was almost certainly the Phoenix2 processor.

Earlier this month, the up master @ Golden Pig upgrade released the latest live shot of the Phoenix2 look and feel, an unreleased APU. According to various whistleblowers, the Phoenix 2 chip will use two Zen 4 cores and four Zen 4c cores, with a total of six cores.

AMD said that it is not only a Phoenix product that switches from 8 cores to 6 cores, but also has adjustments in CPU, GPU and even AI.

In addition, it was previously reported that "Phoenix 2" will use two full-blooded Zen4 cores and four low-power Zen4C cores for background tasks. The RDNA 3 GPU has been reduced from six WGP (12 CU) to two (4 CU), and the TDP has dropped from "35W +" to a maximum of 28W.

CTOnews.com reported in March that information about the Phoenix "hybrid architecture" processor, corresponding to the Phoenix 2 mobile APU, appeared in AMD's official documents at the time, using TSMC's N4 process and 15-28W power consumption for products such as lightweight notebooks or game handsets.

According to the official AMD PPT,AMD Zen 4c and Zen 4 indicators are basically the same, the difference is that each core of Zen 4 has 4MB L3 cache, while Zen 4c is 2MB.

AMD data shows that Zen 4c has exactly the same IPC (performance at a given frequency) as Zen 4 because its front end, execution phase, load / storage components, and internal cache hierarchy are exactly the same.
