In today's mid-to-high-end installation market, there are two star processors: core i7-13700KF and Ruilong 7-7800X3D. Their prices are all about 2800-3000 yuan, and the matching motherboards are all about 1000 yuan. The advantage of Core i7-13700KF lies in more core and stronger theoretical performance, while R7-7800X3D is said to bring game performance comparable to that of its flagship with its unique 3D V-Cache technology.
In this article, CTOnews.com compares the two processors in terms of theoretical performance, game frame number, and productivity performance. The specific test platform is shown below:
Motherboard memory configuration first of all to introduce our test platform today, the two test platforms are about a thousand yuan motherboard. Intel uses Seven Rainbow CVN B760M FROZEN WIFI D5. Due to the high power consumption of i7-13700KF, it is recommended to match the high-end B760 motherboard with strong heat dissipation, or the Z790 motherboard above the middle end. However, only the Z series motherboard can overclock / step down the Core K series processors, so the B760 series motherboard may have the problems of high default voltage and high temperature. in the actual installation, we are advised to choose the Z790 motherboard as far as possible. If the budget is really tight, you can also consider updating the Z690 motherboard with the latest BIOS.
The microstar B650M MORTAR WIFI is used in AMD. Due to the low power consumption of this generation of Ruilong processors, the 7800X3D has more room to choose the motherboard, and can even be used with some high-end A620 motherboards. The microstar B650M MORTAR WIFI used this time is a very high-end choice, and although it is a B-series motherboard, it can also overclock operation. We will also turn on PBO2 automatic overclocking in this test.
In terms of memory, both motherboards use DDR5 memory. But the memory strategies of the two companies are different. Intel 13 Core provides better support for DDR5, so it can easily hit high frequencies. The seven rainbow 6600MHz memory we use here can easily turn on XMP for normal use, and the read and write delay performance is also very good.

The memory controller of the 7000 series sharp dragon on the AMD side is inferior, and the high frequency above 6000MHz is not recommended officially. The author measured the frequency of turning on the EXPO 6600MHz gear and could not turn it on. So the test is limited to the 6000MHz frequency, and the read, write and delay performance is not as good as Core.

Core parameters the i7-13700KF we tested is equipped with 16 cores and 24 threads, of which 8 high-performance P cores support hyperthreading and 8 high-performance E cores do not support hyperthreading. In CPU-Z, we can see more detailed parameters. I7-13700KF has the second-level cache of 24MB and the third-level cache of 30MB. The highest frequency of P core is 5.4GHz, while the high-performance E core has the highest frequency of 4.2GHz. Both cores support overclocking, but need Z-series motherboard support.
The R7-7800X3D on the AMD side adopts TSMC 5nm FinFET process and is replaced with a new AM5 package. The core size is still 8 cores and 16 threads, but it has 8MB level 2 cache and 96MB super-large level 3 cache, basic frequency of 4.2 GHz and acceleration of up to 5.0 GHz, and hot design power consumption (TDP) of 120W. It is worth mentioning that the 7000 series sharp dragon is standard based on the RDNA2 architecture, but there are only 2 computing units, which can only be used for basic office Internet access and debugging activation. The core performance of the R7-7800X3D is not eye-catching, but thanks to 96MB's huge cache, it is said to be able to go against the trend in the game, which we will test later.
Before testing the theoretical performance, let's bake a machine to see the power performance of the two processors. After baking FPU for 15 minutes, the i7-13700KF stabilized at 200W and the temperature reached 100℃. It seems that the heat dissipation pressure of i7-13700KF is still very large. A big reason behind this is that the default voltage of the B760 motherboard is on the high side. Therefore, the author still recommends that you use the Z690 / Z790 motherboard. Even without manual depressurization, the temperature performance will be much better.
Energy saving is a big selling point of R7-7800X3D. When we turn on the default PBO2-85 ℃ on the motherboard, the processor consumes only about 80W and the highest temperature is less than 82 ℃. Therefore, when choosing the radiator, you can even choose tower air cooling, and the motherboard can also choose a cost-effective model with less power supply.
The reason why the power gap between the two is so large, in addition to the gap in the manufacturing process, the core scale also has a great impact. Because i7-13700KF has 16 cores and 24 threads, it naturally consumes more power. Reflected in the theoretical test, CTOnews.com tested CPU-Z, R20, R23 and 3DMark for everyone, and we can see that i7-13700KF shows much better theoretical performance than R7-7800X3D in almost all projects.
When we take R7-7800X3D as the 100% benchmark, we can see that the single-core i7-13700KF can lead by about 20%, and the multi-core i7-13700KF can lead by about 65%. This performance gap is huge. The huge core scale brought by the Intel hybrid architecture plays an important role.
Game comparison, so what happens in the actual game experience? Generally speaking, 3A works will eat more graphics cards, so in the next game test, in order to put more pressure on CPU, we manually adjust the image quality to 1080p high picture quality, in order to avoid the impact of GPU bottleneck on CPU comparison.
We will summarize the test results as follows. It can be seen that i7-13700KF has its own advantages compared with R7-7800X3D in game performance. But the overall gap is not very big.
When we use R7-7800X3D as the benchmark for tabulation, we can see that i7-13700KF has a weak advantage in CS:GO, League of Legends and cyberpunk 2077, while R7-7800X3D has a weak advantage in intrepid contract, Wild Dart 2 and control, and their game performance is basically in the same echelon.
It can be said that R7-7800X3D's 3D V-Cache technology does bring very good game performance, but i7-13700KF still has a 50-50 break with R7-7800X3D with its absolute lead in core performance. It should be noted, however, that the overclocking potential of R7-7800X3D is very low because of its unique architecture, because overclocking may affect the stability of large caches. As long as the i7-13700KF adds a little money to the Z-series motherboard, it can further improve performance through overclocking and buck. If you overclock, then the game performance will be fully ahead of i7-13700KF.
Productivity comparison apart from games, productivity is also one of the main uses of desktops. So we tested some productivity running software for you. It can be predicted that with the super multi-core performance of 16 cores and 24 threads, absolute compaction will be formed in the comprehensive office performance. In the CrossMark test, which represents comprehensive office performance, i7-13700KF scored an average of 2320 and responded smoothly.
The R7-7800X3D lags far behind, with an overall score of 1962.
In the testing of the commonly used modeling software Blneder, i7-13700KF has gained great advantages in all three projects, and is more suitable for modeling this kind of heavy work.

Video clips are also a rigid demand for many people, so we also tested PugetBench For PR, which represents the creative production of Adobe, and the video color blending software Davinci. I7-13700KF scored 1170 on PR, making it perfectly capable of complex video editing.
R7-7800X3D has a greater disadvantage in PR, with a score of only 956. Multicore performance is still important for video clips.
But in another video special effects software test, i7-13700KF showed a very good level, with a score of 2394, which can be used for very complex special effects.
The R7-7800X3D also lags behind by about 2173 points.
In PugetBench For PS, it is also i7-13700KF that gains some advantages. The measured i7-13700KF score is 1688, which is enough for editing large pictures.
R7-7800X3D can reach 1442 points, lagging far behind i7-13700KF.
Finally, we also tested the performance of the two processors in the 3D rendering program V-Ray, and the measured CPU rendering score of i7-13700KF reached 21149 points.
The score of CPU rendering theory of R7-7800X3D is 14132, which is basically lower than that of multi-core performance.
Summing up from our above tests, we can see that R7-7800X3D's 3D V-Cache technology does have two brushes, which can make the CPU with mediocre core performance comparable to that of high-end products. But i7-13700KF is based on the absolute advantage of the core performance, in the game scene is not down. Outside the game scene, i7-13700KF shows even greater advantages. From today's test, i7-13700KF is still a more comprehensive choice at the price of 3000 yuan.
If your chassis is relatively small and limited in heat dissipation, or the power supply is relatively small with a high-power CPU such as i7-13700KF, then the author recommends R7-7800X3D. Otherwise, the author recommends i7-13700KF more. However, the author also recommends matching the Z690 / Z790 motherboard, which can not only enjoy the promotion brought by overclocking, but also alleviate the heat caused by high power consumption.
