Thanks to CTOnews.com netizens Wu Yanzu in South China for the delivery of clues! CTOnews.com, July 26 (Xinhua) according to a blog post by Apple industry analyst Guo Mingyi, the low-end iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus models to be launched later this year will have a 4800-megapixel rear camera lens and a new stacking sensor design that can capture more light.

Mr Guo said that due to the low yield of the sensors, supplier Sony increased its production capacity by 100-120 per cent to meet Apple's needs, but this also led to a significant reduction in the supply of its Android partners.

Last year, Apple first introduced a 4800-megapixel camera lens on the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max, which can take 4800-megapixel ProRAW photos, and the image file can retain more details for later editing. By comparison, last year's iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus used 1200-megapixel cameras.

CTOnews.com noted that Guo's report was consistent with a statement made by Jeff Pu, an analyst at Haitong International Securities, a Hong Kong investment firm, in May, when he said the 4800-megapixel lens on the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus would use a new three-layer sensor to capture more light and improve image quality. Pu said at the time that stacking sensors could face insufficient capacity, resulting in delays in production of the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus. But Guo Mingyi's latest report shows that Apple has solved the problem.

Guo Mingyi also mentioned that as Sony reduces the supply of high-end Android CIS (contact image sensor), the brand factory needs to actively look for alternatives, which is conducive to the significant growth of Weir's high-end CIS (64MP+) orders (since 2H23). Weir's high-end CIS market share is expected to grow significantly from 3-5 per cent in 2023 to 10-15 per cent and 20-25 per cent in 2024 and 2025, respectively, which is conducive to long-term revenue and profit growth. In addition, given that more and more of Sony's production capacity and R & D resources will continue to be occupied by Apple, Chinese brands such as Huawei will actively work with more CIS suppliers, and besides Weir, Stevie is also a potentially key supplier of concern.
