CTOnews.com, July 26 (Xinhua)-- Samsung also unveiled a new flip folding phone Galaxy Z Flip 5 at the Unpacked event in Seoul tonight, which adopts a new design concept and technology to push the flip phone into a new era. TM Roh, president and head of Samsung's mobile experience business, said Samsung "has subverted folding phones in the mobile industry by setting standards and constantly improving the experience."

One of the biggest features of Galaxy Z Flip 5 is that Samsung used seamless hinges for the first time on the phone, effectively narrowing the gap between the two halves of the phone and making the phone thinner. Compared with Galaxy Z Flip 3 and Z Flip 4, the thickness of Galaxy Z Flip 5 when folded is reduced from 15.9mm (excluding camera modules) to 151.1mm.

In addition to the upgraded hinges, another highlight of the Galaxy Z Flip 5 is the phone's new outer screen, which expanded from 1.9in to 3.4in. The outer screen, which Samsung calls "Flex Window", provides more usage scenarios and personalized features, introducing new widgets and multi-widget views. It also allows users to open quick settings, chat and call logs, quickly reply through the full keyboard, and use Samsung Wallet features such as QR codes, coupons, membership cards, passes, digital keys, etc.

The 3.4in Flex Window works perfectly with the new Flex Mode hinge to provide a better photo experience and allows users to view, adjust colors or delete pictures without turning on the device. For photography, the Galaxy Z Flip 5 is equipped with a 1000-megapixel selfie camera with an f / 2.2 aperture, a pixel size of 1.22 microns and an 85-degree viewing angle. There are two cameras next to the outer screen, including a wide-angle camera with a resolution of 1200 megapixels and an aperture of f / 1.8. it has two-pixel autofocus, optical anti-shake, a pixel size of 1.8micron and a viewing angle of 83 degrees. Another ultra-wide-angle camera with 1200 megapixels has an aperture of f / 2.2, a pixel size of 1.12microns and a viewing angle of 123 degrees.

Galaxy Z Flip 5 is IPX8 waterproof, has an armored aluminum alloy (Armor Aluminum) frame and is covered with gorilla glass Victus 2 on the back and Flex Window. Samsung also claims that the improved Flex hinge uses a two-rail structure to disperse external shocks.

In terms of hardware specifications, the Galaxy Z Flip 5 comes with a 3.4-inch Super AMOLED outer screen with a refresh rate of 60Hz and a resolution of 720 x 748. The inner screen is a 6.7in Dynamic AMOLED 2X foldable display with a resolution of 2640 x 1080 and an adaptive refresh rate of 1-120Hz.

The new machine carries Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chip, 8GB memory, and 256GB or 512GB storage space. Built-in 3700mAh dual battery, support 25W fast charging, wireless charging and reverse wireless charging. Other specifications include a nano SIM card slot and an eSIM with side fingerprint identification, 5G Magi WiFi 6e, Bluetooth 5.3, Samsung Knox and Knox Vault.

Galaxy Z Flip 5 is pre-installed with One UI 5.1.1 based on Android 13, which improves the productivity and multitasking capabilities of large-screen devices.

Samsung calls the Galaxy Z Flip 5 an "uncompromising pocket self-expression tool", in part because the new outer screen of the new phone can be synchronized with other devices and accessories. Samsung has introduced a new Flipsuit Case case for Galaxy Z Flip 5 with a replaceable NFC card, and Samsung says users can match their Flex Window design and shell design to express themselves. For future Galaxy Watch 6 users, Galaxy Z Flip 5 provides more customization options through Flex Window to display graphical clocks that match the dial design of the smartwatch.

The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5, which is scheduled to go on sale overseas today, will be available in four colors: mint, graphite, cream and lavender, as well as exclusive colors from some Samsung online stores, including gray, blue, green and yellow.
