Thanks to CTOnews.com netizens for the delivery of clues about the past. CTOnews.com, July 26, according to Japan's Kyodo news agency on July 26, BMW announced on the 25th that it had launched an empirical test of hydrogen fuel cell vehicles in Japan.

The model participating in the test is the BMW iX5 Hydrogen, and part of its fuel cell system technology is provided by Toyota. The model can be filled with hydrogen in about 3 minutes and get a mileage of about 500 kilometers. The purpose of this test is to decarbonize cars through "a variety of technologies", rather than relying solely on pure electric vehicles.

According to reports, BMW plans to conduct road tests on highways in Hokkaido, Sendai, Kobe, Fukuoka and other places by the end of the year, and cooperate with local governments and universities to apply the experience gained in the test to product development.

CTOnews.com previously reported that the Japanese government decided to revise the basic hydrogen Strategy at a relevant cabinet meeting on the 6th. The new strategy shows that in the next 15 years, the Japanese government and the private sector will invest a total of 15 trillion yen to improve the hydrogen energy supply chain.

Hydrogen is regarded as the next generation of clean energy because it does not emit carbon dioxide when it burns. The Japanese government plans to use hydrogen as the main fuel for thermal power stations and fuel cell vehicles (FCV). In addition, the Japanese government also hopes to support the promotion of hydrogen-based ammonia and synthetic fuel industry.

BMW is one of several car companies bullish on the potential of hydrogen fuel cells, including Toyota and Hyundai, but Tesla CEO Musk is not optimistic about this kind of energy, saying on Twitter that "fuel cells are stupid sales" and "stupid sales of hydrogen are meaningless", describing it as "the stupidest energy storage I can imagine."
