Compared with traditional mechanical hard drives, NAND flash memory inside SSD is more sensitive to heat, and this problem is particularly prominent on PCIe 5.

ComputerBase tested Seagate's FireCuda 540 SSD and found that when the SSD ran at 87 degrees Celsius, the read speed dropped significantly and downtime occurred. ComputerBase said that a simple device restart will not solve the downtime problem, and a cold (hard) restart of the FireCuda 540s is required to take effect.

Groupon has previously issued a statement requiring the PCIe 5.0SSD to be equipped with a radiator or even a fan for active cooling.
