Shulou(Shulou.com)11/24 Report--
Thank you, Mr. Air, a netizen of CTOnews.com, for your clue delivery! CTOnews.com, July 26 (Xinhua)-- Intel announced on Tuesday local time that it will work with Swedish telecom equipment maker Ericsson to make custom chips for its 5G network equipment.
As part of the agreement, Intel will also build highly differentiated leading products for Ericsson's future 5G infrastructure and will use Intel vRAN Boost for Ericsson Cloud RAN (Wireless access Network) solutions to optimize fourth-generation Intel Xeon scalable processors to help communications service providers improve network capacity and energy efficiency while achieving greater flexibility and scalability.
According to Intel, the 5G chip will be based on Intel's publicly disclosed state-of-the-art manufacturing technology, Intel 18A, which is also the first time an outside customer has used the technology.
Intel and Ericsson did not give a specific timetable, but Intel has previously said that Intel 18A technology will be ready by 2025.
Intel has lost its leading position in manufacturing advanced semiconductors and has been taken away by competitors such as Samsung and TSMC. An important plan announced by Intel CEO Pat Gelsinger in 2021 is to launch a five-generation chip manufacturing process within four years to regain the lead and turn the company around.
In its press release, Intel stressed that the announcement marked confidence in 18A technology and highlighted Intel's progress on a four-year five-node roadmap to regain its technological leadership and regain its former glory.
CTOnews.com Note: Intel18A is the most advanced process node on Intel's four-year five-node roadmap, based on the new ring gate transistor architecture (RibbonFET) and back-end power transmission (PowerVia) technology.
Intel said it will provide Ribbon architecture innovation and higher performance in the 18A, while continuing to reduce metal linewidth. The combination of these technologies will allow Intel to regain its leadership in 2025.
