Shulou(Shulou.com)11/24 Report--

CTOnews.com, July 26 (Xinhua)-- T-Mobile has launched its super-capacity 5G service, which uses four-carrier aggregation technology to achieve speeds up to 3.3Gbps.

Simply put, the technology combines four different 5G channels into one for the device (CTOnews.com Note: currently it seems that only Samsung Galaxy S23 series and one plus 11 models with X70), even faster than the millimeter wave (mmWave) 5G touted by Verizon and AT&T.

According to a recent report by Ookla, the download speed of millimeter wave 5G in the United States can reach 1.6Gbps. However, the scope and equipment support of millimeter wave 5G is limited, and it is vulnerable to common obstacles such as trees and buildings.

According to reports, the four channels used by T-Mobile include reused spectrum from 3G networks previously sealed by T-Mobile and Sprint, including 1900MHz channels, as well as two 2.5GHz channels and 600MHz channels.

According to the T-Mobile press release, the service has been launched in some areas and "will be launched nationally in the coming weeks", but the operator did not disclose where.

In fact, AT&T and T-Mobile are undergoing similar upgrades. AT&T said earlier this year that it had aggregated two upload channels, while Verizon reported that "upload speeds exceeded 1 GB and download speeds reached 4.3 Gbps in tests."

But in any case, T-Mobile has first been commercially available in the United States, and it has reached the throughput threshold of 3Gbps, which other mobile operators cannot do.

Ulf Ewaldsson, president of T-Mobile Technologies, said that as the only company with a SA 5G network, "T-Mobile is the only provider to bring game-changing technologies such as four-carrier aggregation to market".

According to public data, T-Mobile launched 5G SA coverage in November 2022, and this is the first US operator to achieve 3Gbps speed through three-carrier aggregation. However, Apple's iPhone did not support the 5G SA network until the release of iOS 16.4 in March 2023.
