CTOnews.com, July 25 (Xinhua)-- the total operating income of this year's top 500 Chinese companies reached $15 trillion and net profit reached $717.1 billion in 2022, according to the 2023 Fortune China 500s list. State Grid Co., Ltd. topped the list with revenue of $530 billion, while PetroChina and Sinopec ranked second and third, respectively, while China Construction Group ranked fourth. Hon Hai Precision, Apple's largest contract manufacturer, ranked fifth and was the highest ranked Taiwanese company. China Ping an Insurance (Group) Co., Ltd. is the only mainland private enterprise in the top 10, ranking ninth. Headquartered in Hong Kong, China, Watsons' parent company, Cheung Kong Hutchison Industrial Co., Ltd., ranked 129th.

The metal products industry has 56 companies on the list, making it the industry with the largest number of companies on the list this year, with total revenue of $1.4 trillion.

In terms of profitability, among the 10 most profitable companies on the list, in addition to five commercial banks and CNOOC, CNOOC and China Mobile, two private companies also entered the top 10. Among them, TSJ ranked fifth with a net profit of US $33.3 billion, while Tencent's net profit fell 19% from last year, but still ranked sixth with a net profit of more than US $27.9 billion. The total profits of the ten companies last year were about $308.7 billion, accounting for about 43 per cent of the total profits of the companies on the list.

In terms of net profit margin, three of the top five companies are lithium battery-related industries, namely Tianqi Lithium Industry, Qinghai Salt Lake Industry and Jiangxi Ganfeng Lithium Group. Tianqi Lithium Industry has a net profit margin of 59%, ranking second in the profit margin list. At the top of the profit margin list is Jiu'an Medical, which has a profit margin of more than 60% thanks to strong sales of nucleic acid testing reagents last year. Taiwan's Changrong Shipping ranks third with a profit margin of 53%.

It is worth mentioning that of China's three Internet representative companies, with the exception of JD.com 's revenue growth of about 5 per cent, Alibaba and Tencent's revenue have all declined compared with last year. For comparison, pinduoduo's revenue increased by about 39% compared with the same period last year, while his net profit nearly tripled and his profit exceeded US $4.6 billion.

Among the car companies on the list, the new power "Wei Xiaoli" is on the list. At the same time, BYD had the largest increase in revenue, up 92.4% from a year earlier. Seven of the 15 car companies on the list failed to achieve revenue growth.
