CTOnews.com July 25, Microsoft admitted that the July update made it impossible for Outlook to open hyperlinks, and released a temporary solution in the latest official update log.

Microsoft released the security update KB5002427; for Outlook 2013 and the security update KB5002432 for Outlook 2016 on July 11. However, after the user feedback installation, the link cannot be opened in Outlook 2016.

Microsoft said that after clicking the link in the email in Outlook Desktop, if the path is a fully qualified domain name (FQDN) or IP address, it may pop up with the prompt that "this URL has an unexpected error".

Microsoft officially also provides a temporary solution, CTOnews.com attached Microsoft introduction as follows:

Warning: this workaround may make your computer or network more vulnerable to malicious software such as malicious users or viruses, so make sure that the FQDN or IP address added to the trusted site is a valid URL path for your company or network.

To ensure continued access to files on the FQDN or IP address path, add these URL to the trusted sites zone according to Windows guidelines, and when using FQDN or IP addresses, Intranet sites are identified as Internet sites.

The solution is as follows: go to Windows settings.

Search for and open Internet options.

Click the Security tab, and then select trusted sites.

Add the URL, UNC, FQDN paths you want to allow to add this site to the zone. For example, add file://server.usa.corp.com

Note: if the entry you want to add does not start with "https:", you must uncheck the require server authentication (https) all sites in this area check box before you can save it.

This workaround can also be deployed through Group Policy.

To avoid policy or zone processing failures due to incorrect syntax, it is strongly recommended that you first test the required policy entries in the Internet option UI:

The Group Policy area management interface does not provide input validation of input values. By using the above prompts, administrators can ensure that policy values are considered valid until they are widely deployed.
